Larry Davis Death Richmond Virginia Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my lifelong friend and wonderful neighbor, Larry Davis. Larry was one of the funniest, most genuine people I’ve ever known. We went to high school together—he didn’t play football, but he sure cheered for us with unmatched enthusiasm. Life moved on, and we would see each other only occasionally, until, wonderfully, he moved back to Varina and ended up living just a couple of houses away.

What a neighbor we were lucky to have. We will miss Larry’s laughter, his friendly waves, the surprise containers of his famous “High Kick” Southern pimento cheese left in our garage refrigerator for anyone to enjoy, his beautiful flowers, his unmistakable style and grace, and the sight of him walking daily on the Capital Trail to get his ten miles in. We’ll miss sharing a glass of wine with Bootsie on our back porch, late-night golf cart rides, and the way no one could say “Darling” with such warmth and meaning.

Just the other night, Eleanor and I saw him on the trail at sunset, and I wish we had pulled over for one more laugh together.

I know without a doubt that Larry will have Heaven decorated to the “nines,” just as he would have done here. See you on the other side, my friend. The sunsets won’t be the same, but we will think of you always.

Hug the ones you love when you see them—Larry always did.

A heartfelt tribute by Stokes McCune
