David Fischer Death Obituary Owensboro- Man Killed While Helping Driver on I-165
A tragic roadside accident along Interstate 165 early Wednesday morning has claimed the life of David Fischer, a respected tow truck operator from the Owensboro, Kentucky area who was known for his dedication to helping stranded motorists.
The incident happened just before 7 a.m. on March 11 near the Daviess County and Ohio County line. According to authorities, Fischer had pulled over to assist a disabled semi-truck parked on the shoulder of the highway. While working beside the vehicle, he was struck by a passing southbound semi-truck.
The impact also damaged Fischer’s tow truck and the disabled vehicle. Despite the quick response of emergency crews, Fischer was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities later detained the driver believed to have struck Fischer, identifying him as 31-year-old Suk Subba of Antioch, Tennessee. He now faces multiple charges, including manslaughter, wanton endangerment, leaving the scene of a fatal crash, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
Those closest to Fischer say he was simply doing the job he loved—helping people during difficult moments on the road. Friends and family remember him as someone with a generous spirit who was always willing to lend a hand.
Outside of work, Fischer was known for his compassion toward animals and spent years rescuing and caring for cats. Above all, he was devoted to his family and cherished time with his wife Barbara and their children Jennifer and Jason.
His sudden death has shaken the community and sparked renewed reminders about the importance of slowing down and moving over for roadside workers and emergency vehicles.
The family will share the obituary, memorial, funeral, and visitation details once arrangements have been finalized.
