A shocking act of violence has left the community of Whiteville, North Carolina, grieving the loss of Cynthia Hansen, a respected fitness coach and owner of Stronger Body Fitness, who died following an assault at her gym.
Police say the incident occurred early Wednesday morning, March 11, sometime between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., inside the fitness studio located at 711 North Thompson Street. Officers responded after receiving reports that a woman had been attacked inside the building.
When authorities arrived, Hansen was found seriously injured but conscious. Emergency crews quickly transported her to Columbus Regional Healthcare System. Despite medical efforts to save her, she later died from her injuries. Investigators have since confirmed that the case is being treated as a homicide.
The Whiteville Police Department secured the area for much of the morning while investigators processed the scene. Nearby sections of North Thompson Street near East Smith Street were closed as officers gathered evidence and spoke with potential witnesses.

Police Chief Paul Rockenbach noted that Hansen had trained numerous residents over the years, making her a well-known and respected figure in Whiteville.
