Keissy Luperon Jimenez, Crash Death Deltona, Florida
A 27-year-old woman was killed in a wrong-way crash early Wednesday morning in DeLand, leaving family members mourning the loss of a young mother.
Authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol said the collision occurred on Kepler Road when a 33-year-old driver was traveling in the wrong direction and struck another vehicle head-on. The victim was identified as Keissy Luperon Jimenez, who relatives say was driving home from work at the time of the crash.
Family members described Luperon Jimenez as a kind and welcoming person who made everyone around her feel valued. Her sister-in-law, Duneshka Irizarry, said the sudden loss has left the family heartbroken.
“It’s not fair,” she said. “This is hard. It’s horrible.”
Her husband, Georgie Irizarry, remembered her as a devoted wife and mother who brought joy and light to their lives.
“She was a spark,” he said. “She was my other half.”
According to Georgie, Keissy had stayed late at work the night of the crash. As she walked to her car, she called him to say she was on her way home.
“She said, ‘Hey babe, I just got out. I’m heading home. I’ll see you. Love you,’” he recalled.
Those words would be the last he heard from her. Georgie said that just six minutes after their call ended, he received an emergency SOS notification from her iPhone.
Loved ones say they are now seeking justice as the investigation continues.
The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed the crash remains under investigation. Meanwhile, the family plans to create a memorial at the crash site in her honor and has organized a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral and memorial expenses.
