William Charles Mammoth Death Obituary: Cherish Resident Has Died Unexpectedly
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William Charles “Fro” Wilbert Jr., age 72, of Mammoth Cave, Kentucky, who passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2026. Born on February 25, 1954, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late William Charles Wilbert Sr. and Ida Mae Wilbert, William, affectionately known as “Fro” by friends and family, touched the lives of many with his unique personality, humor, and love for life.
Known for his quick wit and stubborn ways, Fro was a man who left an unforgettable impression on everyone he met. He worked diligently for many years as a drywall hanger, where he earned a reputation for his strong work ethic and his willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. Whether at work or in his personal life, Fro was always ready to help others and was admired for his reliability and generosity.
In his free time, Fro enjoyed spending time outdoors, particularly hunting, riding four-wheelers, and working on cars. He treasured his moments with family and friends, and his warmth and kindness were felt by all who knew him. His ability to bring joy and laughter to those around him will be greatly missed.
Fro was preceded in death by his parents, William Charles Wilbert Sr. and Ida Mae Wilbert; his sister, Linda Miller; and his brothers, Bernie Wilbert and Stevie Wilbert. He leaves behind his longtime companion of 44 years, Therese Willoughby; his children: Joshua Willoughby (Billie Jo), Andrew Willoughby (Vanessa Ann), and Vanessa Willoughby (Brandon); his beloved grandchildren: Camron, ZoeAnn, Carissa, Lucas, Bryleigh, and Adeline; his sisters: Annie Goodman, Laura Wilbert, and Lisa Wilbert; and his brother, James Wilbert. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 1832 W. Market St., Louisville, Kentucky 40203. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery, 701 Baxter Avenue, Louisville, Kentucky 40204.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in William’s memory.
Fro’s spirit will live on in the memories of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know him. His love for life, his humor, and his commitment to helping others will forever be cherished. He will be deeply missed by everyone whose life he touched.
